Diary of Edward D. Bennett, reflecting the record of events in his life for the year of 1865, the last year of the American Civil War. He lost his brother Henry during the war. Throughout the diary, he talked about the weather, his brother John, sister-in-law (widow of brother Henry), the widows who operated the boarding house in Rutland where he lived, and playing with Katie, the daughter of one of the widows. A poem called "Soldier Rest" written by S.R. Holmes was kept at the end of the diary. This was sung at the funeral of Henry W. Bennett.
